  2. As you have discovered for yourself, pills are not the answer. They do not fix or cure insomnia, and they only work for a short period of time. Some of the pils you have taken make insomnia worse – much worse – and can take a very long time to recover from.

Of course your doctor is at wits end – very few doctors understand insomnia, and most of them can do little more than give you pills because they don’t know how to cure or fix it.

You need to make sure your Doctor has done all of the appropriate medical tests to eliminate any underlying health causes. You may have to find another doctor if your current doctor won’t do that.

Have a sleep study done to make sure you don’t have apnea, but don’t expect them to have any answers otherwise – sleep doctors don’t understand insomnia any better than anyone else does, they are "sleep apnea" experts, not "sleep" experts.

Other than that, you are on your own, my friend – there are no doctors out there that understand insomnia and know what to do about it.

I found a wonderful book at the library, I think it was simply called "Insomnia". It is written by a woman who spend years talking to sleep "experts" of all kinds, and it talks about drugs, sleep studies, causes of insomnia, research, and so on. You should look for it, it will at least help explain a bit about what is going on with you.
