I was just reading an interesting book on dealing with anxiety and panic attacks. To sum up, the key is to get outside yourself mentally.

In other words, try to visualize yourself from outside yourself, and recognize that you are experiencing feelings of panic or anxiety but that YOU are NOT those feelings, they are just transitory feelings you are having at the moment.

Breathe deeply and know that you can take yourself mentally out of that situation. Close your eyes and visualize something calming, like a park or beach you enjoy, or anything that calms you. Keep breathing deep and visualizing that place.

The point is to take your mind away from the thoughts it is working on in the panic attack and send it to a calming place. When your thoughts are calm, your body will calm down.

If what you are having is a panic or anxiety attack, this should help. However, you could have some kind of physical problem going on and you would be wise to see a doctor as soon as possible. Any time your heart is pounding and your are nauseated, you should have it checked out.

  3. There is a webpage showing the difference between panic, and anxiety attacks in section 8, on panic, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris If panic, see the COMPREHENSIVE POST first. Anxiety; see section 6; take the quiz; if confirmed view page N first; try the free CBT & hypnotherapy; consider trying the NATURAL PRODUCTS, or the wort. Bipolar disorder; quiz via section 10; if indicated, see page O first.

  4. The thing that stands out to me in your symptoms is the "seeing things". Hallucinations are not considered a symptom of a panic attack but are common in manic episodes.

As others have said, only a doctor (psychiatrist) would be able to tell you which you are having.
