I am 15 years old and am already having sleeping trouble. I have relied on Tylenol Pm now for close to 2 years now. If i dont take them, i will end up being awake almost all night. They are supposed to be non forming and non habit. But is tend to have the urge to use them every night. Is this bad?? What are some solutions to getting lots of sleep without having to rely on anything???
Help! What should i do?

Generally i try to goto bed and wake up at the same time everynight. It gets your body into the habit of falling asleep and waking up at the same time. You arent as tired durring the day and you fall asleep much easier. If you sleep in until noon then try to goto bed at like 11 theres no way youll be able to fall asleep.

Don’t get hooked on sleeping aids. I’ve had the same issue in the past, especially at University.
I found the best way to shock my system back into sleep was to use up all the energy my body had in one day. For example I didn’t sleep one night so I stayed up and was sure not to drink coffee. That day although I was tired, I went to the gym and ran until I was truly physically exhausted. I went home and started to read in bed. I woke up the next day having slept a solid 9 hours.
Give it a try, also taking a hot bath before bed helps too

Do you have a lot on your mind if so, that could be one of the causes. If, you drink soda of anything with sugar in it, late in the evening before going to bed that could be the reason. Is your room completely dark? Do you eat heavy dinner meals? If you eat breakfast everyday, you tend not to eat as much, doing the rest of the day.
Listen to some relaxing music, and tell yourself, I am going to sleep now. Believe me, It works for me. If not, then let your doctor know he/she can prescribed something for you. I know you need your rest, that is the only way to function doing the day. Have a good night rest.

If you are a minor, ask your parents for help. Tylenol PM contains diphenhydramine. This can be habit forming when taken as you have described. Please get some "Benedryl" to do what I suggest. Benedryl is the name brand for diphenhyrdamine and it is actually an allergy medication. Don’t continue to take Tylenol if you don’t need it for pain. This ads unnecessary stress for your liver. Get the Benedryl tablet and slowly ween yourself off of them. Take one and 1/2 tablet for one week. Your body will slowly adjust. The next week cut back to just one tablet and so on. There is no completely comfortable way to do this but this is the most comfortable. Don’t switch to a different medicine because you will still have to go through the same thing eventually. Best wishes.

Insomnia is often caused by fear, stress, anxiety, medications, herbs, caffeine, depression or sometimes for no apparent reason. Make sure your bedroom is quiet and dark. Soak a tablespoon of mint leaves in a cup of water for an hour, drink every night. Check out http://useinfo-insomnia.blogspot.com/ for more info
