I’m Looking For A Very Strong Sedative/relaxant Herb Anyone Know Of A Good One?

I’m looking for a herb with the same qualities as pot, but legal. I’m looking for a sedative type herb that can be made into tea. I suffer from insomnia and don’t want to use medication if at all possible.

    Chamomile, valerian root, hops, lavender, and passionflower are all listed as sleep aids. Valerian is pretty good, I’ve tried that myself.

    You should not use chamomile if you are pregnant or if you are taking blood thinners.

    Unfortunately our FDA doesn’t do testing or regulation of herbal remedies. The pharmaceutical companies don’t make money on them so our government doesn’t feel it’s worth it.

    They are as effective as chemical medications but they also can have side effects too so do some google searching.

  7. I use Valerian root. You can get it from any health food store, or website. It comes in different strengths, I use 500 mg before I want to sleep, it takes about 30 minutes to be effective. Valerian root actually works on the same receptors in the brain as Valium does, but it is not addictive. There is also no drug "hangover" the next day. I buy mine from Swanson Vitamins on line, they have the best variety and best pricing.

    Depending on what you’re really looking for… Valerian is a good herb to help you relax b4 bed and you can get velarian teas in a healthfood store. You can allso buy a tincture. If you’re looking for a legal pot alternative check out http://www.bouncingbearbotanicals.com/. I’ve bought a few different things from them… so far I like the "Indian Warrior" the most. I’ve smoked it though,, it’s not for making tea really. The ones I’ve tried are all mush more mild than pot, but might suit your taste. Good luck.

  10. Over the counter sleeping pills or TC3s are good. Can’t take valerian root–makes me edgy and stinks. I feel unhappy on it. It may work for you but I suggest warm milk, chamomile tea and a hot shower.

  11. You are in luck. I have been using herbs for many years. I am within a few months of 60. I tell people about the herb I am going to tell you about all the time. Go to a reputable herb shop and see if they have any lobelia inflata. If not, go on the web and look it up. It tells you where it grows, all over the southwest. When you find some, take a big trash bag and collect all the leaves you can. When you get home use one of those screenwire collanders, put a big bunch of leaves in it and using cold water wash the leaves really good. Then on the stove heat up two quarts of pure water from the bottles.Put a quarter more in for evaporation. When the water starts to boil put two or three heaping handfuls of leaves in. Turn the heat down to simmer and cover for ten minutes. Strain the tea water through an old but clean white t-shirt. What you don’t drink right away you can refrigerate and use later. One cup and if you have a couch made of concrete you will think it is the softest thing you ever sat on. Why, because lobelia inflata is the strongest natural muscle relaxant on earth.
