Chronic Depression is also known as Dysthymia. This illness can be serious although not as severe as bouts with Major Depression. Someone who knows you may have chronic depression, but you have no idea. Typically someone with this illness can live a regular life. It’s not unusual for them to continue everyday activities such as attending school or having a social life without great difficulties. This is due to the fact that the scars caused by this illness do not appear on the outside of the body but on the inside. But both physical and mental effects result.
Chronic Depression will not make you cough, sneeze or run a fever. A rash won’t break out on your body. However, a victim of this illness may feel helplessness, worthlessness and hopelessness. Sleeping disorders such as nightmares and insomnia may develop. The disease can leave the victim with a constant sad or empty feeling that consumes them . Usually those affected by the disease may also experience episodes of thinking about death or suicide . Chronic Depression isn’t always apparent.
With mental illness it requires a close look and a lot of experience to recognize the symptoms because victims work hard to conceal the problem. When you are approaching an illness such as Chronic Depression there are a few major options for treatment. Psychotherapy, attacking a mental illness with a mental solution, is one of the more popular approaches.
The patient can find a positive outlook, with Psychotherapy, with the help of a doctor who attempts to determine the cause of the depression. Anti-Depressants that help to stem the spread or worsening of the condition are another option. Both Psychotherapy and drugs are generally combined to treat chronic depression. The patient may not yet have Major Depression, but Chronic Depression can lead there. Therefore, as in with any illness, early detection of the illness cannot be underestimated.
When Chronic Depression cause problems in day to day life, it has become a problem. It’s really time to act when employment or other outside activities begin to suffer. Chronic Depression doesn’t mean people afflicted are ready for the funny farm. They have problems that need to be addressed and approached with care and support. Anyone can become a victim of this disease. Having knowledge about it may one day assist you or someone you know in facing it.

No. I blame my problem on a disfunctional chemical in balance. That is what depression is. Some people may do that but I don’t.

At times doesn’t everyone of us blame others? Try to look at your life own your own feelings and take responsibility for your own actions. Then after you feel you have done so its time for that other person to do the same.

I feel that must be true. That is your statement… I actually feel it must be true… honestly I feel this to be the case…you know…

Depression often alters the way a person thinks. Blaming others, denying they have a problem, and avoiding their own issues are all common in those who either are not recieving treatment or are not getting the correct treatment. But, the depressed person is still fully responsible for what they do and say, they are depressed, not insane. If you have a loved one that is doing this, insist on therapy, if they refuse, get some for yourself. It is emotionally damaging to have someone you love treat you so shabbily.

Yes, they can. I have done that many times in the past. Most people with depression dont think that it is something they did, but want to lay blame on others. Before I started taking medication I would blame my husband and anyone else who was around. It caused great stress in my life and made the depression worse. Now I take meds and see a doctor reguarly. This is something I would suggest. It has made a world of difference. It may take time but it will work. Make sure you are always honest with your doctors and invlove loved ones if you can so that they know what you are going though and it is not intentional.

Yes, they do. Most times they are right.
The loved one will deny it or defend it – but the victim is most times correct about the cause.
There are therapies and medication to combat the disorder.

Yes not only blame but definitely lash out to those who are closest to them. The ones who do the most for them. I have seen it happen in my family and I see myself doing it too sometimes. Your mind can get so overloaded ,even though you may have caused your own situation, that you want people to react a certain way or fix things for you so you do not have to deal with any problem at all(sexual, finanicial or everyday conflicts). Yes- I have had chronic depression for 7 months.I am trying to slowly but surely find my way out. I am definitely looking at not blaming or lashing out at anyone. That is a negative reaction that will surely not help your depression!

I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH CHRONIC REOCCURRING MAJOR DEPRESSION IN 1993.HOWEVER I HAVE BEEN STABLE SINCE 1997 AND NOW HAVE A WONDERFUL AND HAPPY LIFE. PEOPLE WHO HAVE THIS CONDITION DO NOT NECESSARILY DEVELOP IT FROM TRAUMATIC EVENTS THAT HAVE OCCURRED IN THEIR LIVES. IT IS MAINLY CAUSED BY A CHEMICAL IMBALANCE OF THE BRAIN . WE FOR THE MOST PART DO NOT BLAME OTHERS FOR OUR CONDITION . WE TEND TO PLACE BLAME ON OURSELVES. THINKING THAT WE MUST BE AWFUL PEOPLE AND SOMEHOW DESERVE THE AGONY WE ARE GOING THRU. IT TAKES A LONG TIME TO REALIZE THAT IS ONLY THE LUCK OF THE DRAW THAT WE ARE IN THIS STATE.IT TAKES A LOT OF STRENGTH AND COURAGE TO GET BETTER AND REMAIN STABLE. I HOPE THAT ANSWERED YOU ??
