My Little Sister Is Showing Signs Of PTSD?

I’m sitting here with my 7 year old baby sister(She has Chronic Insomnia). 2 months ago she was Sexually & Physically abused by a Babysitter several times. She has been showing signs of PTSD for the past Month or so. She seems to be afraid of any Man other than me. My mother has tried to help her but has kind of pushed herself to the side. She has shown signs of withdrawal from her Friends/Family,Nightmares and she has told me she’s had nightmares. How can I help her through this? It seems like I’m the only one she trusts anymore
And if it is PTSD what are some of the treatments for PTSD in Children?
(I’ve asked Questions like this before but never gotten real answers)

Hopefully, something in the following, modified previous answer will help; print, show, or refer your mother: There is a quiz for the presence of P.T.S.D., via page E, of section 1 in ezy build, below. Some of the symptoms include "flashbacks", hypervigilance, sleep disorders, especially nightmares, and just staring blankly. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is addressed at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris in sections 33 – 34; (sexual abuse; minors; see section 20; try Pandy’s first, & http://www.coolnurse.com/hotline.htm – free US calls) examine the http://1-800-therapist.com/ & http://www.metanoia.org/choose/ websites, and use the locators in those sections, and section 1, and phone book, and/or various associations for psychiatrists and psychologists, to find the nearest one using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy).

In EMDR, a therapist will ask you to revisit a traumatic event and remember the feelings, negative thoughts, or memories associated with it. While you are doing this, the therapist may hold up two fingers about eighteen inches from your face and move them from side to side. You may be asked to track the movement of the therapist’s fingers with your eyes. As you concentrate on the traumatic event during therapy, you are trying to bring its memory to life. The mental imagery you are able to conjure up during the therapy session is then processed, aided by your eye movements, facilitating the processing of painful memories, enabling some of the powerful emotional states involved to be discharged to some degree, and helping to achieve resolution and a state involving less painful emotions.

EMDR has 8 stages. Professional EMDR is always much preferable, and Opester, (who gives it a glowing recommendation) a therapist with more than 20 years experience, and a former contributor, here, stated that it was one of only two disorders which can be completely cured. Sometimes, a beta blocker, such as propranolol, or atenolol is administered prior to being asked to recount the traumatic event, reducing the emotional charge associated with it, as it is re-recorded in your memory (which has been shown to be plastic, at least to some extent, with many people). Check out medications first at: http://www.drugs.com/ and http://www.rxlist.com/ and http://crazymeds.us/ and http://www.askapatient.com/ If unable to afford it, or to locate one nearby, contact the county/local mental health agency: any therapy on offer may prove helpful, particularly if combined with appropriate medication.

  1. It is very possible that she is suffering from PTSD. Intense psychotherapy is the only answer. PTSD is a crippling condition and she needs to be referred to a professional counselor immediately (one who specializes in sexual trauma preferably).

  3. She needs to be in professional counseling. Mostly she needs time to learn to truth in her environment and to trust other people again. She also needs to feel safe, so do what you can to make her feel safe and secure again.

  4. sound like she needs children thapery if you go to someone good they will know how to get her to trust them and then she will have someone outside of you to tlak to and they can find the real problem because this is a deeper problem and if nothing is done now it will get much worse over the years

Contact your county/local mental health agency, and find out what help they can offer. (U.S.A.) Try phoning 211, or 411, and Google: "clinics; mhmr; (your city); (your state)" Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is also recommended, and has been used successfully, with PTSD. Some people, however, may benefit more from psychotherapy, or counselling, at least until they are some way along the path to wellness, and feeling psychologically robust enough for the harsher CBT (a free E course in it, which can help reduce the time spent in therapy sessions, is at: http://moodgym.anu.edu.au/welcome ). Most people are suggestible, to some degree, so you could either seek professional hypnotherapy, or, quicker, cheaper, and more conveniently: http://www.asktheinternettherapist.com Defeat Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) CD – MP3 or http://www.hypnotictapes.com POST TRAUMATIC STRESS SYNDROME (DISORDER) PTSD, OVERCOME

  6. There is no "one only" treatment for ptsd that works.
A therapist friend has had good luck with children using EMDR and some with EFT.
It does take somebody with a special knowledge of doing it with children.
As an adult EMDR helped me more than anything. EMDR if just a tool. Needs to be used by a good practitioner who has other "tools" and an expert with kids would be necessary in my view.
let me know if I can help
