Any solutions for insomnia for a person who has chronic, severe abdominal, flank and back pain. The prescription I take, I believe is causing my pain to be worse. I take melatonin 1mg. along with the popular "A" sleep medicine. Thanks!

Tylenol has never worked well for me. Ibprophen works a lot better. Insomnia – calcium and magnesiun ( don’t take one without the other ) are natural relaxers and sleep inducers. These tablets can be bought anywhere and 2 or 3 taken with warm milk should do the trick.

I have just had my third back surgery so I relate well. I have spent nights up and slept days. Sometimes there is no choice. But I have take some Meds for( Lyric) the pain and have had good nights and great days. It does make your hands and feet swell. So I don’t use it all the time. Going to a gym also will help. Working out is good for that.

Have you ever tryed taking Tylenol PM a half hour before bedtime? I take them when I have back or knee pain thirty minutes before bedtime. As soon as I begin to feel sleepy, I crawl into bed & I sleep well. I follow the instructions on the bottle & only take two "time released capsules." The good thing, is that you will not become addicted to these pills. I know this for a fact because I don’t need to take them nightly, & I’m okay with that. Make sure you buy the "time released capsules" as they seem to work best. It’s good for the pain I get from time to time & I get a good night’s sleep as well. My son & daughter-in-law both tryed the capsules & they really worked well for them as well. It does not put you into a deep zombie-like sleep & when you wake up in the morning, you feel wide eyed & well rested. Well, at least I do. It’s worth a try but check with your doctor first.

One reason is taking naps during the day. I know that is part of the problem and I am not going to change. When someone asks me if I had a good nap I reply, there is not such thing as a bad nap.

I take three generic Excedrin (w/ aspirin) before bedtime. This helps sometimes. My wife who has had two spinal surgeries, was prescribed Tramadol for pain. It inadvertently helped with her restless leg syndrome. I keep telling myself that even moderate exercise would help us both, but I just can’t seem to get into it. I’ve always been a very sedentary person. Nothing works all of the time. We don’t like the way sleep meds make us feel the next day. Benedril works for some, but not me.

Naproxen (Aleve) works best for me. Don’t take it on an empty stomach, and don’t wait until the pain gets bad to take it because it works better at preventing the pain somewhat when you don’t end up chasing it. Maybe take it after supper. A heating pad is good too, even if it’s for internal pain.

You might try changing the pain medication and stopping the A. Check with your doctor about the problem. My doctor gave me a muscle relaxant that does better than the A without any lingering problems the next day.
I also used some ‘natural sounds’ and subliminal cds.
