  3. writing stuff down that you think of.. keep a journal or a list of things to remember in the morning, that way you can have it all down on paper and don’t have to worry about remembering it. basically i have found that keeping a journal helps clear my mind and get to sleep.

  11. Get up and read a book, have a cup of chamomile tea (relaxes you) but don’t watch TV. Laying in bed worrying about not being asleep is a catch 22. Try also visualizing a beach somewhere where you are watching the ocean and just mellowing out. Also what I felt helped was to get up (and later I kept a pencil and paper by the bed) and wrote down the problem and what I thought was an approach to solving it, not solving it but an approach.

    Best of luck

  13. Most of us have had that problem at one time or another, when I was in school a test kept me awake, in college, many tests kept me awake, boyfriends kept me awake, a sick child,a fight with a friend or husband, a death etc. When I get into bed I read and concentrate on what I’m reading. I take a couple of Tylenol to relax me,and I stop worrying about the insomnia. I think, if I sleep fine,if I don’t I eventually will. Many nites I got maybe 4 hrs sleep. But I could get thru the day and knew I’d sleep that nite. Many times its the worry of not being able to sleep that keeps you awake.I plan menus, think about shopping lists, chores I need to do the next day,and as I said eventually I fall asleep. Hope you do to.

  15. It takes practice, but it does work for me when I calm down and remember to do it. Once I recognize it, I just stop myself cold in the middle of a thought and say, "STOP! Relax, calm down and get some sleep." Then, I put myself into my sleeping position and attempt the impossible by trying to blank my mind while taking deep breaths. While taking those deep breaths you’ll find thoughts start to creep back into your head, as soon as you recognize a dominant though, quickly clear your head and start to take deep breaths again. That’s the purpose of counting sheep, to rid your head of those thoughts that rule your brain at bedtime.
