I have been suffering from insomnia for about 3 months and it has been severe. I have gone on sleeping pills but they don’t really seem to work and i hate the sideaffects and don"t want to get hooked on them. Just wondered if anyone out there used other treatments other than resorting to sleeping pills. The doctor gave me Lopraszam ? not sure the spelling. I am not a depressed person i have had some anxiety issues but i have dealt with them and no longer feel i have anxiety now. Any advice?
Just sleep when you feel the need to sleep. Unless its affecting your life directly there shouldn’t be too much of a problem. If there is you can get a sleep study done and see the direct cause of it. Lorazepam I believe is Ativan, medications like ativan and xanax don’t do very well at all for sleeping problems. Your doctor felt the reason you didnt sleep is from you being anxious but apparently it is not so you should go back and tell him. These meds will put you to sleep, but you’ll wake up only a few hours later. Medications used for sleep are ones like lunesta, Ambien, and sometimes a low grade Trazodone or Seroquel. Insomnia is not "curable" unless you treat whatever is causing it.

There are herbal remedies, but it might be beneficial to go to counseling. That is not to say that there is anything wrong, it’s just that therapists are trained to help see things you may not be able to and to help you work through what ever it is that is giving you insomnia. There are also the basics: No caffeine (which may be difficult if you’re tired). Make yourself wake up at regular times, no matter how tired you are, and go to bed at a regular time, no matter how awake you are. Don’t eat right before bed. Cut the sugar out.
Hope this helps. C (^_^)
